Alcohol/Drug/Batterer/Gambling Assessments

An assessment, all of which are objective tools designed to help the assessor rule-out bias, is a service my practice provides that helps the client determine if they have a problematic, dependent, or addictive relationship to substances, anger or violence.  Assessments assist in the development of a treatment plan.  For example, I will conduct an interview asking about current and historical experiences with the following, if applicable:

  • Gambling

  • Substance Use 

  • Anger/Violence

  • medical/mental health treatment history; 

  • Behavioral pattern- it’s symptoms and the effects the addiction/anger/violence has had on your life. 

These assessments are acknowledged and used by the Courts, DMV, licensing boards and private employers.

Assessment types that I have administered are as follows: 

Anxiety/Depression:

  • Beck Anxiety Inventory and Depression Inventory-II

  • Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9)

  • Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ)

  • General Anxiety Disorder (GAD 7)

  • Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A)

Attachment:

  • What is my own Attachment Style?

  • Determining my Partner’s Attachment Style

  • Experiences in Close Relationships (Assesses adult attachment security toward a romantic partner using the Experiences in Close Relationships) 

Batterer Intervention/Intimate Partner Violence: 

  • Relationship Functioning Self -Assessment

  • Safe at Home

Gambling:

  • NORC Diagnostic Screen for Gambling Problems-Self Administered and provides a simple self-test to evaluate one’s gambling behavior

Substances: 

  • Triage Assessment for Addictive Disorders (TAAD-5)

  • Michigan Alcohol Screening Test (MAST)

  • Drinking Related Internal-External Locus of Control Scale (DRIE)

  • Alcohol and Drug Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT/DUDIT)

  • Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)
